Further Success for the MKUTA Academy

Alison

The UTF British Masters 14th Open Taekwondo Championship was the first competitive appearance for the MKUTA Academy  in 2010 where they were joined by many national and international teams.

The competition was in two parts, Kyrugi (sparring) and Poomsae (patterns). The MKUTA head Coach C Cesar was honoured to be invited as Poomsae Competition Director giving him overall responsibility for coordinating Poomsae judges and the allocations of the compulsory patterns for all Dan grades.

In the judging he was accompanied by MKUTA students Allison Ellerton, senior student of the year 2009, Lucia Rapanotti and Mitchell Connolly, junior student of the year 2009. Three students took part competitively in the patterns; Dan grades Alison Ellerton and Sarah Hunt winning gold and silver respectively in their categories while Kup grade Steve Ferns won gold in his category.

In the Kyrugi competition the Academy only had one player, Richard Mearns, coached by Mitchell Connolly. After an exciting fight in which Richard showed the skills he has learnt in his many years of training he added a second silver medal to the Academy’s magnificent success.

New year’s party.

Recently we held our annual new year’s party which is also the academy’s birthday party.  It was an excellent evening and it was nice to see everyone who attended.  There were awards for Student of the Year in both Junior (Mitch Connolly) and Senior (Alison Ellerton) categories and awards for the senior (Pav) and junior(Amber) who won the most points based on the number of events and competitions they attended last year.  (Thank you Claire for keeping a record of this throughout the year.)   Well done to all of you.   If you have any nice photos from the event please email them to me so that I can put them on the website.  No videos of my singing though please, they will break the computer!

Thank you to Wendy, Michelle and Alison for all their help organising the party and to Stuart our DJ!
